We had a wonderful adventure in some slightly choppy waters in Haro Strait southwest of False Bay. There, we encountered a large number of J-pod whales foraging. We spent some time with a number of whales including the west coast icon J1 (Ruffles) and the oldest whale in the southern resident community J2 (Granny). Both Granny and Princess Angeline (J17) gave us spectacular passes! A highlight of this afternoon's trip was the sighting of a minke whale travelling amongst the orcas not the least bit concerned by their presence. Can minke whales distinguish between resident and transient orcas? It seems likely; it was great to see these two amazing animals so close together.
