This morning's tour brought guests and crew to the far reaches of our viewing area. We met up with L-Pod (a group of 45 resident orcas) as they made their way west through the strait of Juan de Fuca to the open waters of the Pacific Ocean. We were pleased after a long ride through fog, to get great looks at the family group headed by Alexis (l12). She is a proud grandmother to a fully mature male, Mega (l41) and his two sisters Calypso and Matia. We also had a chance to see Saanich (l74) as he followed salmon as they traveled close by our boat. Even with time limited by the sea conditions and a lengthy drive home, all aboard were pleased to encounter these amazing animals in their natural environment.

Even after seeing a great display of whales in the morning we were unable to find any for the afternoon tour. But never fear, the guests aboard saw many other animals. We cruised up the Haro Strait, with a brief glimpse at harbour porpoises, then made our way around the north side of Spieden Island to marvel at the harbour seals hauled out on the seaweed covered rocks. We even spotted 4 different bald eagles, including one as it swooped down in the attempt to capture its next Friday meal.
