Friday, June 8th
Today's afternoon tours were spent viewing J-Pod foraging off the west side of the San Juan Islands. We were able to get a great look at Slick (J16) and her new calf (J42). Traveling with them was her other offspring; 16 year old son Mike (J26), 10 year old son Keet (J33) and 8 year old daughter Alki (J36). After a beautiful viewing of J-Pod we got word of a lone Humpback whale just off the Victoria waterfront. It was a great surprise and the guests unofficially named the whale "Humphrey the Humpback". We watched it take a deep dive, where it arched its back and its 'hump' was obvious. On our way back to the Victoria Harbour we stopped at Trial Island where we saw many Harbour seals. We also saw 2 Bald Eagles sitting on the shoreline looking for the opportunity to feed on the abundant fish in the bull kelp.
Another wonderful day on the water!
