Although an overcast morning, our trip brought us westward towards the United States. After crossing the Haro Street, we discovered J-pod traveling close to the shores of San Juan Island. While approaching the pod, we observed a species of Loon floating in the water. The whales were very active with their flippers and tail as we observed multiple tail lobs and a few flipper slaps. On our trip home we stopped by the Chain Islands and observed some Harbour Seals swimming and resting along the rocks.
The afternoon trip took us North on the Haro Strait to South Pender Island. The longer trip out allowed our guests to enjoy the beautiful views of the various islands found next to Vancouver Island. Once we arrived to J-pod, we first observed Ruffles as he surfaced and dove multiple times while passing. We were also fortunate to see Slick swimming with her newborn, her sprouting son Mike and a few other whales. The pod moved together in very close formation - making for beautiful photos!
